Scripture & Current Events
A Side-by-Side Study
For over a decade, we've been studying these scriptures alongside world events. Not to declare who anyone is or isn't ... but to study the Word carefully and honestly. We present the scripture. We present what's happening. You draw your own conclusions.
This is a study guide, not a sermon. Take your time with each passage. Read it in context. Pray on it. And if you see something we missed, we want to hear about it.
Daniel 8:23-25 KJV
Context: Daniel's vision of a ruler who rises in the latter time of the kingdoms.
And in the latter time of their kingdom, when the transgressors are come to the full, a king of fierce countenance, and understanding dark sentences, shall stand up.
Study question:
What does "understanding dark sentences" look like in modern leadership? What figures in our time speak with this kind of authority and boldness?
And his power shall be mighty, but not by his own power: and he shall destroy wonderfully, and shall prosper, and practise, and shall destroy the mighty and the holy people.
Study question:
"Mighty, but not by his own power." What does it mean when a leader's influence seems to exceed what any one person should be able to accomplish? Who or what provides that power?
And through his policy also he shall cause craft to prosper in his hand; and he shall magnify himself in his heart, and by peace shall destroy many: he shall also stand up against the Prince of princes; but he shall be broken without hand.
Study question:
"By peace shall destroy many." How might peace deals and diplomacy serve as instruments of something larger? What do you see when you read this alongside current events?
Revelation 13:1-4 KJV
Context: John's vision of a beast rising to power, and the world's response.
And the beast which I saw was like unto a leopard, and his feet were as the feet of a bear, and his mouth as the mouth of a lion: and the dragon gave him his power, and his seat, and great authority.
Study question:
A composite of Daniel's four kingdoms, now unified in one figure. What system or alliance in today's world combines the traits of multiple empires?
And I saw one of his heads as it were wounded to death; and his deadly wound was healed: and all the world wondered after the beast.
Study question:
A mortal wound that heals, causing the world to marvel. Have you witnessed a political figure survive something that should have ended their career ... or worse ... only to come back stronger?
And they worshipped the dragon which gave power unto the beast: and they worshipped the beast, saying, Who is like unto the beast? who is able to make war with him?
Study question:
"Who is able to make war with him?" When does admiration cross the line into something scripture warns about? What does modern political devotion look like through this lens?
Daniel 12:4 KJV
Context: The angel tells Daniel to seal the book until the time of the end.
But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.
Study question:
Knowledge increasing exponentially. AI, global communications, instant information. Are we living in the generation Daniel described? What does the acceleration of technology mean in light of prophecy?
1 Thessalonians 5:3 KJV
Context: Paul writing to the church at Thessalonica about the Day of the Lord.
For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape.
Study question:
"Peace and safety." When world leaders declare peace deals and new eras of stability, what should the discerning believer remember? How do current peace negotiations fit this pattern?
How We Study This
We've been studying these questions since 2015. Not from a place of fear ... from a place of curiosity and reverence for the Word. The Bible doesn't need our help to be relevant. It just needs honest readers willing to look at it alongside what's happening in the world.
We don't declare who anyone is. We don't claim to have the timeline figured out. We present scripture. We observe events. We ask questions. And we trust that the Holy Spirit guides each reader to what they need to see.
